Have you ever wondered what the oldest quilts dating back to early America look like and who made them? First, let us clarify one point: There is a need to differentiate between quilts that were brought by settlers and those made in the settlements. Since the names of quilters often were not recorded during that time, we shall never know for certain who created the first quilt in America. Information found in estate inventories, wills, and diaries is sometimes the only record that exists.
